In the lush landscapes of eastern Gilan, the Mediterranean humid airflow, confined by the Alborz mountains on one side and the evaporation cycle of the Caspian Sea on the other, transforms moisture discharge and runoff into primary environmental challenges. Consequently, a distinct style of vernacular architecture has emerged, reflecting the locals’ response to nature. A conventional feature of Gilan houses includes a sloped roof preceding a deck and a veranda, collectively presenting an abstract image of a house in the northern region of Iran. Among all of these elements, “dwelling” serves as the central narrative of the project and acts as a metaphor for the vernacular architecture of this region. As a fundamental theory in the design process of this house, dwelling is considered the “highest honor bestowed upon humans in space.”
